English Gothic
A Study In Terror
Release Date: OUT NOW!
384 pages | Hardback Author: Jonathan Rigby Publisher: Signum Books
If you love British
horror films, buy this. It’s one of three or four books on the subject that you simply must own.
If you already have the first edition, published in 2000, upgrade, since it’s been extensively updated. Fifty- five pages on horror from 2000- 2015 have been added, but there are also updates sprinkled throughout.
If you don’t own that, you’ve been missing out. Jonathan Rigby has an encyclopaedic knowledge of British horror, but more importantly he’s a good writer; he has an engagingly sardonic tone, a keen eye for a trend, and understands that a synopsis does not constitute a review. After a few hours’ reading you’ll come away with two mental lists: one of films you need to track down; another of cleverly formed phrases. Essential. Ian Berriman
