Thursday, February 23 A much lighter yarding of 243 head was submitted to buyers at the Wangaratta Livestock Exchange. This was 106 fewer than last week and comprised of 213 young cattle, 20 cows and four bulls.
Dry conditions are affecting quality, with few bullocks and steers on offer. There was a reasonable penning of heifers of all weights and again the vealers and yearlings made up the bulk of the offering.
Demand was not as strong as last week, with the result grown steers were firm to 5¢ easier, heifers were 5¢ above last sale’s rates and vealers eased by 5¢. Cows met reasonable demand to be 5¢ cheaper than last week.
