Thurs­day, Fe­bru­ary 23 A much lighter yard­ing of 243 head was sub­mit­ted to buy­ers at the Wan­garatta Live­stock Ex­change. This was 106 fewer than last week and com­prised of 213 young cat­tle, 20 cows and four bulls.

Dry con­di­tions are af­fect­ing qual­ity, with few bul­locks and steers on of­fer. There was a rea­son­able pen­ning of heifers of all weights and again the veal­ers and year­lings made up the bulk of the of­fer­ing.

De­mand was not as strong as last week, with the re­sult grown steers were firm to 5¢ eas­ier, heifers were 5¢ above last sale’s rates and veal­ers eased by 5¢. Cows met rea­son­able de­mand to be 5¢ cheaper than last week. Quo­ta­tions: Bul­locks +550 kg 254.0; steers 450-550 kg 235.0 to 330.0; steers -450 kg 290.0 to 348.0; heavy heifers +500 kg 266.6 to 300.0; Heifers -500 kg 170.0 to 337.2; veal­ers 340.0 to 376.2; beef cows 200.0 to 229.2; bulls 227.0 to 238.2
