Shepparton News - Country News - - OPINION -

Women from across northern Victoria gathered for the Country Women’s Association’s spring conference in Shepparton East last Thursday.

Hosted by the Eastern Goulburn Valley group, the conference is one of two held every year and attended by various CWA groups.

‘‘We get together to bring up any issues and any news to pass on among each other, both from head office right down to the members of the group,’’ Eastern GV group president Gwenda Metzke said.

The conference included a guest speaker from Beyond Housing, who spoke on homelessness to the 50 women attending.

‘‘We like to learn about something as much as we can and how we might be able to help out,’’ Mrs Metzke said.

‘‘We also highlight our craft and cooking skills as we were winners at the state exhibition this year.’’

Most of the women at the Shepparton East Football Club rooms were from eight branches from within the Moira, Central Murray and Goulburn Valley West CWA groups.

The spring meeting specifically highlighted Christmas cake cooking for the Melbourne Christmas Fair and the increase in junior members.
