Building on basics
The Grassland Society of Southern Australia’s annual conference was held at Nagambie last week.
The conference, in its 58th year, titled Building on Basics: Inve$t and Grow , saw speakers inform farmers about soil management, risk and farm management, pastures and feed base, and livestock grazing and performance across the twoday event.
On the first morning (September 6), about 120 people heard about soil management from South Australian senior research scientist Ross Ballard and CSIRO Agriculture and Food research scientist Dr Richard Simpson.
Mr Ballard talked about strategies to improve N2-fixation by sub-clover and lucerne, while Dr Simpson talked about managing the phosphorus cycle in clover-based pastures.
Congupna and Mansfield farmer Jim Vasey and Incitec Shepparton agronomist Lee Menhenett attended the first morning of the conference.
