Groundwater allocations have increased for Goulburn-Murray Water customers in the Katunga Water Supply Protection Area after Victorian Water Minister Lisa Neville signed off amendments to the Katunga WSPA Groundwater Management Plan.

As a result of the amended plan allocations will increase from 70 per cent to 100 per cent for all Katunga WSPA groundwater customers.

It is the first time in 11 years that groundwater users in this area have had access to 100 per cent of their allocation, and the change affects about 200 G-MW customers.

The Katunga WSPA incorporates parts of the floodplains of the Murray River, Broken Creek and Goulburn River, and extends from Yarrawonga to Barmah and includes the towns of Strathmerton, Cobram, Numurkah and Nathalia.

The WSPA applies to groundwater at depths greater than 25 m below the surface and is overlain by the Shepparton Irrigation Region Groundwater Management Area. ■ The amended plan is available to download at www.gmwater.com.au and a copy has been sent to all relevant groundwater customers.
