Tatura hosts tough contest

Shepparton News - Country News - - OPINION -

It’s set to be fierce competition at Tatura Park this weekend, as more than 125 competitors come together to compete in the largest regional dressage competition.

Running since 2009, the three-day TFNC Tatura Dressage Classic and Spring Showcase will see riders from the Goulburn Valley, Melbourne and throughout NSW compete across 46 classes.

Running from Friday to Sunday, August 10 to 12, the event will also see some new additions to the program, with a dog race set to grace the track from 5 pm on Saturday, and a new horse event.

‘‘(The dog race) will be a scream, the place will go to the dogs, literally,’’ event secretary Sue Terry said.

‘‘We also have a unique teams event, a country versus city ride-off, with one rider from each level competing in a head-tohead. Hopefully country will have some success there.’’

With strong competition in the past, Ms Terry said she was expecting another big year of dressage.

‘‘It’s a stunningly unique event with a good country feel,’’ he said.

Run by the Tatura Football and Netball Club, the event has seen the organisation recognised for its unique role in hosting the contest, nominated for a host of awards by Equestrian Victoria this year, including Event of the Year. ■ For more information, visit the Equestrian Victoria website: www.vic.equestrian.org.au
