Rego victory for farmers
The NSW Government has backflipped and agreed to address a five-year registration rip-off, according to the Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party.
The party’s Murray electorate spokesperson Helen Dalton said NSW Transport Minister Melinda Pavey had announced compensation for farmers for overcharging heavy vehicle registration.
‘‘It could amount to more than $2000 per heavy vehicle registered by farmers,’’ Ms Dalton said.
The party was also critical of water allocations for farmers.
‘‘The NSW Department of Environment and Heritage continuously holds on to water belonging to farmers,’’ she said.
‘‘In the Murray this equates to 10 per cent general security and three per cent high security, but there are parcels in all other valleys.
‘‘They were rolled into the Water Sharing Plans and then, very conveniently, rebadged and forgotten.
‘‘Only when the catchment is saturated is 100 per cent of water available and always too late for the planting of annual summer crops or the watering of winter cereals.’’
