Kia Mo­tors posts global sales growth

Kia Mo­tors Cor­po­ra­tion has an­nounced its global sales fig­ures (ex­port sales, do­mes­tic sales and sales from over­seas plants) for pas­sen­ger cars, recre­ational ve­hi­cles (RVs) and com­mer­cial ve­hi­cles for April 2013, record­ing a to­tal of 239 347 units sold. This fig­ure rep­re­sents a 4.2 per cent year-on-year in­crease. In April, Kia posted a year-on-year sales in­crease in China of 19.6 per cent (48 482 units sold) along with pos­i­tive gains in Europe and Kia’s home mar­ket of Korea with 7.1 per cent (53 058 units sold) and 1.4 per cent (40 554 units sold), re­spec­tively.

Mean­while, April sales in gen­eral mar­kets and North Amer­ica de­creased by 4.3 per cent (42 116 units sold) and 0.8 per cent (55 137 units sold), cor­re­spond­ingly. Cu­mu­la­tively through the first four months of 2013, Kia’s global sales have in­creased by 3.1 per cent year-on-year to reach 832 708 units.

Kia’s best­selling model in over­seas mar­kets for the month of March was the B-seg­ment Rio (known as ‘K2’ in China) with 41 620 units sold.

The C-seg­ment Cer­ato (known as ‘Forte’ or ‘K3’ in some mar­kets) was the sec­ond best seller with 32 852 units de­liv­ered, while the Sportage com­pact CUV, Op­tima D-seg­ment sedan and Sorento mid-size CUV fol­lowed with 32 844, 24 213 and 16 921 units sold, re­spec­tively.
