Kia Mo­tors overseas sales up in 2013

Kia Mo­tors Cor­po­ra­tion has an­nounced its 2013 full-year global sales fig­ures (ex­port sales, do­mes­tic sales and sales from overseas plants) for pas­sen­ger cars, recre­ational ve­hi­cles (RVs) and com­mer­cial ve­hi­cles, record­ing a to­tal of 2.7 mil­lion units sold.

This fig­ure rep­re­sents a 1.4 per cent cu­mu­la­tive year-on-year in­crease com­pared to 2012.

Sales of Kia ve­hi­cles in all overseas mar­kets climbed by 2.7 per cent to 2.2 mil­lion units com­pared to last year.

In 2013, Kia posted a year-onyear sale in­crease in China of 12.7 per cent (577 386 units sold) and Europe of 3.4 per cent (590 210 units sold) along with a pos­i­tive gain in gen­eral mar­kets of 0.8 per cent (513 419 units sold).

Kia’s best­selling model in overseas mar­kets dur­ing 2013 was the B-seg­ment Rio (known as ‘K2’ in China) with 470 766 units sold.

The Sportage com­pact CUV was the sec­ond best seller with 389 698 units de­liv­ered, while the C-seg­ment Cer­ato (known as ‘Forte’ or ‘K3’ in some mar­kets), Op­tima D-seg­ment sedan and mid­size Sorento CUV fol­lowed with 376 322, 255 383 and 200 891 units sold, re­spec­tively.
