Mitsubishi Motors takes divisional honours at hill climb
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) driver Greg Tracy has won his class and finished second outright at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in his electric MiEV Evolution III race car. Tracy also set the fourth fastest time in Pikes Peak history. Tracy landed victory in the Electric Modified Division, while his team-mate Hiroshi Masuoka finished second in the Electric Modified Division and third in the event’s outright placings.
This year, Mitsubishi Motors entered two MiEV Evolution III electric race cars — which combine the best of MMC’s electric vehicle (EV) and four-wheel drive control technologies — in the Electric Modified Division.
Held in Colorado in the United States, the iconic motorsport event was run from June 23-29.
Greg Tracy said he was happy to deliver the Electric Modified class victory to Mitsubishi Motors.
‘‘The Mitsubishi Motors team prepared a fantastic race car for me. I want to thank the team and also Masuoka-san who helped to develop this phenomenal race car to capture this win. This victory is truly a team effort,’’ he said.
‘‘The road surface condition today was rather slippery but the S-AWC had eliminated any unnecessary drift of the car, and I was able to attack turns all the way to the top with full confidence.
Mitsubishi Motors has entered the Pikes Peak Hill Climb three years in a row since 2012, viewing it as an opportunity to verify the performance of major EV components.
