Hyundai smashes sale record
Hyundai Motor Company Australia has finished the month of June with record sales of 10 008 vehicles.
This is the 25th consecutive month of year-on-year sales growth for Hyundai. The brand placed third overall in the Australian market with an 8.5 per cent market share.
Total industry sales for the month of 118 309 were down 0.4 per cent compared with the same month last year.
For passenger car sales, Hyundai’s total of 7273 units placed the brand in second position overall, with a 13.5 per cent market share, up 3.4 per cent on the same period last year, ahead of Holden, Mazda, and Ford.
Hyundai models placed first in three segments, with another three models ranking top three for their respective segments.
The ix35 continues to be the number one selling vehicle in the competitive small SUV under $40 000 segment with 1851 units sold in June, achieving a 20.9 per cent segment share.
The light under $25 000 segment was dominated by Hyundai’s i20, selling 1833 units and achieving a 17.6 per cent segment share, while sales of i20 and Accent (737 units) combined to achieve a total 2570 units and a segment share of 24.7 per cent.
In the small cars under $40 000 segment Hyundai’s i30 sales of 3243 units combined with Hyundai’s Elantra sales of 904 units to achieve a total of 4147 units and a segment share of 17 per cent.
The Sports Cars under $80 000 segment saw Hyundai’s Veloster returning to the top position, selling 221 units and achieving a 20.6 per cent market share.
Another three Hyundai models achieved podium results in June, with iLoad finishing in second place, and the i30 and iMax finishing in third place in their respective segments.
“This record result is not just about HMCA and the strength of the Hyundai product range, it’s about the Hyundai dealer network,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer Charlie Kim said.
“As Hyundai continues to grow in Australia, so our dealer network will grow with us — this 25th consecutive month of year-onyear sales growth is an all-time record, but it is also part of a longterm strategy. We strive for solid, consistent, manageable growth as we face a challenging market for the rest of 2014 and beyond.”
