Blues seal campaign triumph in style

-

Shepparton United has had a fruitful few days.

The Blues sealed the Goulburn North East women’s premiership on Thursday night, thanks to a 4-0 defeat of nearest rival Shepparton South at McEwen Reserve.

The top-of-the-table showdown was expected to be a close affair, but United had the points in the bag following a stunning first-half display.

Rising star Tara Ambrosini was in sublime touch for the Blues with a hat-trick, while coach Sheridan Fairless netted her second goal of the campaign.

Goalkeeper Lucy Ciancio kept a clean sheet for United on Thursday, but also Sunday as the Blues scored a 9-0 home win against Kyabram Phoenix at Central Park.

United led 3-0 at half-time and went on with the job in the second stanza, adding six more.

This time Sarah Loverso and Olivia Cornall, the star of last year’s grand final win against Cobram Roar, scored hattricks.

Ambrosini made it four goals in four days with her strike, with Caitlin Georgiou and Chelsea Georgiou also hitting the back of the net.

United and South will come together for another catch-up match this Thursday night, and barring an upset of significant proportions, doubles as a grand final dress rehearsal.
