BOWLERS TAKE TO THE GREENS TO RAISE MONEY AND AWARENESS OF CANCER

- By Declan Martin

Mooroopna Bowls Club is going pink and blue for a fun day of bowls to raise money for breast and prostate cancer research.

Arthur Drust said with the pennant bowls season finished, it was a chance to get back on the green for a fun afternoon of friendly bowls.

‘‘The greens are in beautiful order and we’re hoping to have them all filled out,’’ he said.

Organiser Margaret Anderson said most bowlers, or members of their families, had been touched by cancer and every dollar was going to the breast and prostate cancer foundations.

‘‘Cancer is scary, we have lost many members to it and one of our members is battling it right now,’’ she said.

The club held a fundraiser for breast cancer in 2015 and raised close to $3000.

The day will see bowlers play three games of 10 ends and twobowl triples with team and single entries accepted.

The matches will be followed by a delicious afternoon tea. ● Entry for the event on Sunday, April 9, from 1 pm costs $30 a team and bowlers are asked to wear an item of pink or blue clothing. To enter, phone Arthur Drust on 5825 2499. Entries close on April 7.
