Murray Bushrangers slay Dragons side
Murray Bushrangers’ under-18 girls’ side continues to mark itself as one to beat in the first season of the underage competition.
The Bushies have started the year with two convincing wins from their opening matches in the five-round season.
Shepparton Notre’s Sophie Damon continues to be a powerhouse in the side which has a good chance of taking out the title.
Her first two games have yielded a whopping nine goals, as the forward capitalises on strong midfield supply.
After opening up her season with a six-goal haul against Bendigo, she backed this up with another three in round two against Sandringham Dragons.
The Bushrangers were in full control against the Dragons, never letting their opposition enter the contest.
Leading at all of the breaks, a sturdy defence kept Sandringham to just one goal in each of the first two quarters.
After that the defensive 50 went into lockdown and not a single score was made by the Dragons after the main break.
Jerilderie’s Paige Nash, who is also a gun netballer, supported Damon well as she kicked two goals herself.
Shepparton Notre’s Abby Favaro and Mooroopna’s Rebecca Webster also featured in the scoring as the Bushrangers’ performance was rewarded with a 43-point winning margin.
After already being one of the best players against Bendigo, Mooroopna’s Millie Brown stood up for her side to be named the Bushrangers’ most influential.
She was well supported by Finley’s Eloise Ashley-Cooper and Webster.
Murray tops the TAC Cup Girls ladder and will look to continue its good form against Gippsland Power on Saturday.
