Gleeson rubbed out for two
Euroa’s Brad Gleeson will sit out the next two Goulburn Valley League games after accepting a two-match penalty.
The key forward and relief ruckman was booked in the third quarter of the Magpies’ blockbuster against powerhouse Kyabram at Memorial Oval on Saturday.
Umpires reported Gleeson on the spot for striking Kyabram ruckman Jake Reeves in a gamechanging incident.
Bombers players flew the flag for their teammate, with a scuffle taking place following the incident that also had Gleeson’s teammate Matt Hess reported for striking Kyabram skipper Josh Vick.
Gleeson and Hess were given yellow cards and sent from the field, reducing the Magpies to 16 players on the field for 15 minutes.
Euroa was 12 points ahead before Gleeson was reported and the Bombers were able to push ahead by kicking 3.4 to no score when the players were off the ground.
The Magpies lost the game by seven points.
The match review panel considered Hess’ report and he will front the GVL’s independent tribunal tonight.
Euroa playing coach JD Hayes said his side had to stamp out the undisciplined acts from the game.
‘‘We touched on it last week with Trent Storer getting sent off that it can cost us in a close one and it did (on Saturday), so we’ve addressed it with the playing group and we know that’s not acceptable going forward,’’ Hayes said.
Meanwhile, Merrigum’s Christian Barnett will contest a striking charge against Longwood’s Justin Van Merkestyn at the Kyabram District league independent tribunal tonight.
