STANHOPE v GIRGARRE

-

Stanhope will be out to keep pressure on the top two sides when it hosts Girgarre on Saturday. The Lions are a game off Nagambie and Violet Town, with Brenton Gray’s side coming off three straight big victories against Longwood, Undera and Rushworth. They will have extra motivation to perform well, with the club celebrating a premiership reunion for five flags across football and netball. The Lions will remember the 2007 senior and under-16 netball premierships, an under18 and A-grade triumph from 1997 and the 1987 senior success to make it back-to-back flags when they were in the Heathcote District Football League. Premiership players from all grades are invited to watch the game, with dinner to follow that night. Girgarre has fallen off the perch in recent weeks, losing four matches in a row to almost drop out of finals contention. The Roos managed just four goals against Avenel last week, with Shannon Tucker, Brenton Bassett, Luke Whykes, Shaun Doolan, Jake Hyland and Ash Hughes leading the way.
