Feast for the ears
PERFORMERS READY FOR GV ORCHESTRA’S ANNUAL CHAMBER CONCERT SERIES
Goulburn Valley Concert Orchestra will showcase its talents at the group’s annual Chamber Concert series this month.
Beginning on Sunday, a wide collection of beautiful music will sound through Shepparton’s Eastbank Centre and people are being encouraged to take advantage of the free performances.
GV Concert Orchestra’s Wendy Oakes said the Chamber Concerts were a great way to develop people’s talents.
‘‘It’s a lovely afternoon out,’’ she said.
‘‘I think there’s something there for everyone.
‘‘These concerts allow everyone to play the music that appeals to them.’’
The opening concert on Sunday will include performances by the flute ensemble, a viola quartet and a viola duet, as well as soloists Eloise Ford on piano, Carole McGregor on viola, Jesse Gawne on trumpet and vocalist Felicity McCowan.
Ms McCowan will be joined by Renee Moor and Charlotte Drinnan to give a repeat performance of Delibes’ Flower Duet from Lakme to conclude the first concert.
The String Ensemble directed by Peter Read, string quartet Fitette and wind trio Winded will feature at the Sunday, September 10, concert along with soloists Imre Gontier on flute and vocalist Sherryn Parnell.
The final concert on Sunday, September 17, will feature Brian Matthews and Wade Gregory with some jazz improvisations as well as the percussion ensemble under the direction of Bruce Archibald and the Wanganui Park Secondary College VCE Music Performance group directed by Charlotte Drinnan.
Greater Shepparton City Council performing arts and conventions manager Ken Cameron said the concerts were a great opportunity for GV Concert Orchestra members to explore a wide variety of music.
‘‘Music plays a vital role in developing and inspiring our community, so it is wonderful to present a more relaxed style of musical performance that is accessible for individuals of all ages and backgrounds,’’ he said.
● Entry is a gold coin donation and bookings are not required. The concerts will be held on Sunday, September 3, 10 and 17 at 2 pm at Eastbank Centre, 70 Welsford St in Shepparton.
Ready to perform: Brian Matthews, Demi Wood and Wendy Oakes are looking forward to the annual GV Concert Orchestra’s Chamber Concerts.
