Winery to offer luxury hotel
SOON, YOU CAN TRY WINES AND STAY THE NIGHT AT MITCHELTON
High-end accommodation for travellers looking for luxury will be coming to Nagambie within weeks.
The final touches are being added to Mitchelton Wines’s luxury hotel ahead of a planned mid-October opening.
The Mitchelton Hotel promises a boutique tourism experience for travellers wanting a holiday with a difference.
Mitchelton Wines’s managing director Andy Ryan said the idea had been floating around for a long time — ever since the winery opened in the 1970s.
‘‘The original owners actually wanted to put a hotel in back then, but I think there were budget constraints,’’ Mr Ryan said.
‘‘This is like closing the loop on a 45-year-old dream.’’
Construction has been ongoing at the site since Strathbogie Shire Council approved plans in June last year.
Tradies were busy putting the final touches on the flooring and plastering and other interiors in what Mr Ryan said would be the highest standard of accommodation in Strathbogie.
‘‘The build cost is somewhere north of $15 million,’’ he said.
‘‘People will be very impressed.’’
He could name only a handful of wineries across Australia that had luxury accommodation, but he predicted it would be a success due to everything Nagambie has to offer.
‘‘From the horse studs to the wineries, there is more than enough things to do to keep people here a few days,’’ he said.
The town of Nagambie is already popular with tourists who flock to Nagambie Lakes Leisure Park, but Mr Ryan said the park operators should not see the hotel as competition.
‘‘I believe we will not be as family focused as the park,’’ he said.
‘‘You will see a lot more guests for weddings, and people coming up for conferences.
‘‘This will raise the perceptions of Nagambie.’’
Locals should see strong benefits, with Mr Ryan predicting dozens of new jobs would need to be filled once the hotel was operational.
The hotel will offer a luxury day spa, swimming pool and easy access to the winery and the Goulburn Explorer river cruiser via a jetty on the Goulburn River.
Almost ready: A luxury hotel in Nagambie will soon open to the public.
