CONTRIBUTE TO SAMARITAN’S PURSE GIFT BOX PLAN AND MAKE SOUTH-EAST ASIAN KIDS’ CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
It might feel a bit early to be thinking about Christmas but a small group of Goulburn Valley residents is already planning how to bring a smile to children in developing countries.
Plans for this year’s Samaritan’s Purse Gift Box program are well under way and members of the community are invited to donate to the cause next month.
Ingrid Mauger, from Mooroopna, has been working with Samaritan’s Purse for about 10 years to put together boxes to deliver to children in South-East Asia at Christmas.
‘‘The boxes require six things — something to love, something to wear, something for school, something to play with, something for personal hygiene and something special,’’ Mrs Mauger said.
The Mooroopna Anglican Church will host a dessert night on Friday, September 8, from 6.30 pm for people to learn more about the boxes, donate items or sponsor a box.
‘‘Each box costs $10 to post and it’s not that expensive when you see how far the $10 goes to deliver the boxes,’’ Mrs Mauger said.
Usually the Greater Shepparton region produces about 1000 boxes for Samaritan’s Purse, but Mrs Mauger is hoping for more.
She said the program and the boxes brought a lot of joy to people who had nothing.
‘‘The children are ecstatic (when they receive them),’’ she said.
‘‘I’ve watched them take their boxes to their family and it wasn’t just a joy for the child, it was a joy for the whole family when the box was opened.’’
● The Samaritan’s Purse gift box dessert night is on Friday, September 8 at the Mooroopna Anglican Church, Young St, Mooroopna, starting at 6.30 pm. For more information about the night, phone Ingrid Mauger after work hours on 5825 4001.
I love this: The Samaritan’s Purse Christmas gift boxes are delivered to children in South-East Asia.
