School bus wrong turn ends in crash
A school bus attempting to make a prohibited turn in Shepparton yesterday morning caused traffic disruptions after it collided with a car.
Police were called to the collision between a school bus and a black Kia Sorento station wagon about 8.40 am at the intersection of Maude and Swallow streets.
Shepparton Highway Patrol First Constable Farren said the bus was travelling north on Maude St when the driver attempted to turn right onto Swallow St.
‘‘The intersection is only allowed for a vehicle length of 9.2 m and the bus is 11.7 m long,’’ he said.
‘‘In order for the bus to make the turn, he had to go left.
‘‘The 53-year-old male driver of the car thought the bus was turning left and has driven into the bus.’’
The bus was carrying students and teachers at the time. However, no-one on board received any injuries and the bus was able to be driven away from the scene with only minimal damage.
The occupants of the car did not receive any injuries, but their vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
First Const Farren said alcohol and drugs were not a factor, but he added that a penalty notice would be issued to the 59-year-old bus driver.
No way: A car and bus collided at a Shepparton intersection yesterday.
