Big events a boon for us

Shepparton News - - VIEWPOINT -

Shepparton sporting fans could be watching the next generation of Socceroos stars play right here this year.

The latest big announcement in a long line of sporting coups for the region will have the Young Socceroos play in Shepparton in November.

Yesterday it was revealed the country’s best young soccer players would be coming to the Goulburn Valley as part of their quest to qualify for next year’s under-19 Asian Cup in Indonesia.

It was the second significant soccer announcement in recent weeks, following news that prominent A-League club Melbourne City would play a pre-season friendly in Shepparton next month.

There is no doubt Shepparton sporting fans have been spoiled for choice in recent years as the region has played host to many high-quality events.

A CONTINUED DRIVE AND AMBITION TO HOST HIGH-PROFILE EVENTS IN SHEPPARTON WILL CONTINUE TO STAND THE REGION IN GOOD STEAD ... ATTRACTING MORE VISITORS TO THE AREA AND STIMULATING THE ECONOMY CAN ONLY BE A GOOD THING.

is out on the future of the audacious regional Victoria 2030 Commonwealth Games Shepparton-led bid concept launched in April, at least the idea is right.

Shepparton also hosts other big events such as Challenge Shepparton, and several state titles for various sports, and does so very well. A continued drive and ambition to host highprofile events in Shepparton will continue to stand the region in good stead.

It is not only welcome news for local sporting lovers, but has major benefits for the region more broadly.

Attracting more visitors to the area and stimulating the economy can only be a good thing.

Major events being staged here will continue to do wonders for Shepparton’s profile moving forward, and successful running of events will serve to strengthen our reputation in terms of hosting them again.
