Let there be light

A new sporting hub is in the making at Kialla Park Reserve. With state-of-the-art lawn bowls facilities and a newly renovated AFL Goulburn Murray office space, the football oval will also receive improvements. New lighting will be installed at the ground to make it safer for players to train on. The Goulburn Valley Giants masters, the GV Stars All Abilities team as well as the Shepparton District Junior Football League side Southern Stars are all football clubs that make Kialla its home base. Old Students Cricket Club also announced its relocation to the same ground midway through last year. Having been based at Shepparton High School for nearly 90 years, the Students voted to move to Kialla with the improvements helping bring up the standard of the oval for last season’s Haisman Shield premier. AFL Goulburn Murray general manager Martin Gleeson announced the installation along with the unveiling of office redevelopments at the site. He said the lights would be of a training standard, with the level of light at 200 lux. ‘‘Having a proper office space, having functional user groups here with the cricket and the GV Giants (and) new lights coming in then it’s really bringing the community centre back to life,’’ he said.
