Fantastic fundraising initiative
A Mooroopna Park Primary School student has raised more than $1000 for new equipment for the school.
Year 3 student Daniel Hooper, 9, set out to raise $1000 by collecting a $1 donation from 1000 people in the lead-up to his school’s annual fun run fundraiser.
‘‘(I raised it) because I like the school and it deserves it,’’ Daniel said.
He first asked for donations from friends and family, which helped him reach his first couple of hundred dollars.
Daniel’s mum Anita Wilson said together they had spent about 11 hours walking the streets of Mooroopna, Tatura and Shepparton to add to the total.
‘‘Most of the businesses were really nice,’’ Ms Wilson said.
‘‘I think out of Mooroopna there were only about four who didn’t donate.’’
Daniel’s fundraising total was also helped along the way by some bigger donations online, including one for more than $100 by the Central Victoria Lure Casters.
Eventually, Daniel surpassed the $1000 mark, raising $1340.99 for the school from about 200 donations.
He completed the roughly 2 km fun run from the Chinese Gardens, Mooroopna, to KidsTown on Friday with students from 10 other schools.
Mooroopna Park Primary School principal Hayden Beaton said the school was proud of Daniel’s achievements, given the most raised for the fun run was about a couple of hundred dollars.
‘‘He’s done a fantastic job, he’s shown a lot of initiative and he’s proud of himself, and so he should be,’’ Mr Beaton said.
Daniel thanked all the businesses, staff and strangers who donated to the school.
