Time to start fire plans
TALLYGAROOPNA FIRE BRIGADE’S OPEN DAY AND MINI MARKET IS A CHANCE TO PREPARE FOR SEASON AHEAD
There will be something for the whole family at Tallygaroopna Fire Brigade’s open day and mini market.
Tallygaroopna Fire Brigade member Louise McKinnon said the event was all about engaging the community and helping them to become prepared for the approaching fire season.
‘‘The open day is taking place to help the local community learn more about what the brigade does and how it can help you prepare for the coming fire season,’’ Ms McKinnon said.
‘‘Come and chat to some of the CFA members and firefighters, ask questions about volunteering, check out the station and fire trucks and bring along your fire extinguisher for testing as well.’’
CFA community safety coordinator and 3rd Lieutenant John Rhodes said it was a great time to prepare a fireready plan.
‘‘We can assist people in preparing their plans,’’ he said.
There will be much information and many flyers to help residents know how to register burn-offs as well as their horses, how to prevent haystack fires and grassfires, campfire safety and more.
‘‘We’ll have a presentation from the national equine database at 11 am,’’ Ms McKinnon said.
Ms McKinnon said there would be a barbecue as well as fun activities for the children.
‘‘There’ll be colouring in and they can squirt water out of the hose from the fire truck,’’ she said.
‘‘We’ll also be showcasing local businesses with the mini market.’’
Mr Rhodes said the brigade was always looking for new members, having about 15 active firefighters and around 30 members in total.
‘‘We’re always looking for more people, especially those who can turn out in the day,’’ he said.
‘‘We’re a family-friendly brigade and we’ve got quite a few active female members,’’ Ms McKinnon added.
The brigade has members aged 16 to 70-plus years.
‘‘We have heaps of roles, people don’t just have to be active firefighters,’’ Ms McKinnon said. ● The open day and mini market will be held on Sunday, November 12, from 10 am to 2 pm at the fire station in Victoria St, Tallygaroopna.
Prepare for season: Ready for Tallygaroopna Fire Brigade’s open day are Daniel Watson, Angela Joy, Verity Joy-Watson, 3rd Lieutenant John Rhodes, Louise McKinnon with Madelyn Moss and 2nd Lieutenant Brad Moss.
