Winning Emilys keep Pink in fine fettle

- By Lauren Bordin

Emily Turcato and Emily Humphrey played essential roles in helping Shepparton Lawn Pink hold on to what would become a tightly fought contest against Mooroopna Lawn Blue.

In the A-grade Shepparton Junior Tennis Association encounter both players won their singles duels by a combined seven matches as Mooroopna presented a stable front.

Mooroopna’s Jack Nicholson and Molly Tancred were in impressive form to take out a mixed doubles set late in the match as an intense match-up was played earlier on in the boys’ doubles.

Shepparton talents Tom Ferguson and Tanner Madigan just pipped their Mooroopna challengers, keeping a cool head to win in a tiebreaker.

Topping a challenging day, Shepparton Lawn Pink was left to enjoy the spoils 5-38 to 3-36.

Kialla Park continued its dominance of the competition with a commanding defeat of Mooroopna Cats White, 7-43 to 1-16.

Josh Mazzucco and Sophie Brown combined for White’s only set win which came in style as they conceded just the one game.

But Robbie Mifka, Mitchell Roche, Sophie Smith and Ellie Mifka have a formula that is just so difficult to counteract.

Mifka and Roche stood out in a brilliant 6-1 win in the boys’ doubles.

Shepparton Lawn Blue and clubmate Shepparton Lawn Red lined up and Blue took out bragging rights.

Blue’s Thomas Turcato had good fortune on his side, not playing in a losing set for the day.

Having won his singles he also formed a formidable force with Noah Dunham and then Emily Schrek in the mixed doubles.

In B1, McEwen Reserve was a big winner against Shepparton Lawn Purple, while St Brendan’s and Shepparton Lawn Yellow were also too good for their opponents.

B2 grade victors were Kialla Park and McEwen Reserve, while joint C-grade and D-grade winners were Shepparton Lawn Blue, Kialla Park Blue and Kialla Park Gold.
