League given deadline extension

Shepparton News - - SPORT -

‘‘They were done with best interests in mind and done in goodwill.

‘‘It was pretty beneficial and very amicable.

‘‘We feel we’re in a lot better position having had the meeting.’’

Gleeson said the extension to the July 13 deadline was about giving the commission time to make any amendments to the document in question.

‘‘There were some questions regarding clauses in the agreement. I think the committee wanted to (have) a bit of a review and seek some further advice, and then provide a revised document to the Picola league,’’ he said.

‘‘Once they’ve received that, they’ll have 21 days to decided if they want to affiliate.’’

Gleeson said the league’s decision to go alone this year was never held against it, nor would it be as the parties work towards a likely affiliation.

He said the issue would not be allowed to drag out as it was at the start of this season.

‘‘It was always our intention and, certainly at the start of the year, the door was always kept open,’’ he said.

‘‘We’re very keen to ensure it’s resolved prior to the end of this season — it’s certainly not going to be left until March.

‘‘It’ll be resolved by the end of the season so the clubs are fully aware of what is happening.’’ Under the pump:

Shepparton Gators are keen to win both games in the double-header weekend in order to remain in second spot.
