Emergency services in the region have received a boost with the Victorian Government funding a new fire station in Nagambie.

State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes and Labor candidate for Euroa Fionna DeppelerMorton visited the Nagambie fire station yesterday to announce a new $1.35 million facility.

Land has been acquired on High St to build the new station and replace the current station on Vine St, which was opened in 1955 but no longer meets the needs of the brigade and the community.

‘‘Our dedicated Nagambie CFA firefighters are prepping for the summer bushfire season and this is fantastic news that the Labor Government will fund their new home,’’ Ms Symes said.

‘‘The new Nagambie station will provide the brigade a modern base from which they can respond to emergencies.’’

Ms Deppeler-Morton said she looked forward to seeing works commence.

‘‘I look forward to seeing work start on the Nagambie station so our dedicated volunteers have a brand new home to not only work from but to attract and train future volunteers.’’

Construction of the new fire station will start next year, with consultation to begin between the CFA, local CFA District 22 and the brigades to finalise the plans and project data.

Ms Symes and Ms Deppeler-Morton also visited the almostcomplete $260 000 boat ramp at Major Creek Streamside Reserve in Mitchellstown and announced $264 870 in funding for upgrades and expansion at Ride Avenue Kindergarten in Benalla.
