Top pi­anist back in city

Two years since play­ing in Shep­par­ton, Tony Lee will re­turn for to­day’s Con­cert in the Chapel.

The 2016 Aus­tralian Na­tional Piano Award win­ner will play works by Scar­latti, Beethoven, Schu­bert/Liszt and De­bussy, among oth­ers.

Event or­gan­iser Matt Anker said the Syd­ney-born mu­si­cian had earned a rep­u­ta­tion as one of Aus­tralia’s finest young pi­anists.

‘‘Lee is the most highly awarded pi­anist in the coun­try as he is the first prizewin­ner of the Lev Vlassenko Piano Com­pe­ti­tion, Aus­tralian Na­tional Piano Award, Aus­tralian Youth Clas­si­cal Mu­sic Com­pe­ti­tion, John Al­li­son & Hen­der­son Award, Mel­bourne Great Ro­man­tics Com­pe­ti­tion and was the Best Aus­tralian Pi­anist at the Syd­ney In­ter­na­tional Piano Com­pe­ti­tion in 2016,’’ he said.

‘‘In­ter­na­tion­ally, he is a top-prize win­ner of the Louise Hen­ri­ette In­ter­na­tional Piano Com­pe­ti­tion, Scri­abin In­ter­na­tional Piano Com­pe­ti­tion (Paris), Kerik­eri In­ter­na­tional Piano Com­pe­ti­tion, Adilia Alieva In­ter­na­tional Piano Com­pe­ti­tion, Euterpe In­ter­na­tional Com­pe­ti­tion and the Nordic In­ter­na­tional Com­pe­ti­tion.’’
