Bus interchange work begun

Shepparton News - - NEWS -

Work has started on the Maude St bus interchange redevelopment, including the demolition of structures near the corner of Maude and Vaughan Sts.

The works are part of Greater Shepparton City Council’s $3 million twostage plan to revitalise the southern end of the central business district.

The demolition will allow for the construction of new public toilet facilities which will include an adult change room, breastfeeding and baby changing rooms as well as a bicycle storage area.

The works also include construction of a plaza area and a new eight-bay bus interchange.

Council’s infrastructure director Phil Hoare said the new plaza was aimed to create a friendly space for shoppers.

‘‘The plaza area will provide a great space for socialising and the new facilities will be user friendly and complement the new bus interchange. It will greatly enhance the amenity and safety of the area for our community,’’ Mr Hoare said.

He said the new bus interchange would operate on both sides of Maude St for north traffic.

Later stages of the overall project include streetscaping of Maude St from Vaughan to High Sts and traffic signals to replace the roundabout at the intersection of Vaughan and Maude Sts.

Mr Hoare said the overall project works would be staged in the next two financial years with completion likely to be in late 2020.

Funding for the project is coming from the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, Public Safety Infrastructure Fund, VicRoads, Public Transport Victoria and the council. and southbound
