HÔTEL DU PETIT MOULIN
Lacroix’s extraordinary haute couture legacy lives on in the design of the Hôtel du Petit Moulin, a Small Luxury Hotel of the World housed behind the shopfront of a 17th-century bakery in the Marais district. As the first of the designer’s three hotel ventures, butterflies, Rococo embellishment, animal print and the swinging sixties are all liberally referenced in this whimsical homage to Paris. Each of the 17 rooms is dressed with flamboyant detail, such as intricate wall murals and handpainted tiles. No two rooms are the same; in one you may find a trompe l’oeil Baroque baldachin above the bed and brocade wallpaper, contrasting with modern white furniture, while in another, green and brown tones are offset by Lacroix’s own designs scrawled on the wall. The bar is simple and clean with ‘60s-inspired furniture while the lounge is sumptuous with leather sofas and lavish textiles. A tad over the top? Well, it is Lacroix, sweetie.
