The New York-based jeweller inspired by old Hollywood and exotic travel destinations.

when David Joseph and his wife, Miriam Salat, founded Bochic in 2004, jewellery was either modern or clasically safe. “we took fine jewellery and turned it into something that was fashion-forward,” he says, describing the appeal of his creations: carved earrings, multi-finger rings and cuffs.

Each piece is infused with hollywood drama and exoticism, the sort of thing his muse, the Bochic woman, might wear or find as she trawls the markets of a far-off land. he and his wife first met his ideal of bohemian chic on a ferry in Positano. “She was dressed in white linen and reminded me of a modern-day grace Kelly,” he recalls, soon after learning that she had come from crossing the desert in Morocco. “This is the kind of woman we would like to design for. She is chic but also adventurous and socially conscious.”

Joseph’s travels have been an influence in more ways than one. “we not only find inspiration for our jewellery, but we also find materials we never thought we could work with, like Siberian mammoth, jet and jade.” carvings tell a story in each piece, while lab-grown gems provide conflict-free sparkle.

in 2015, Joseph collaborated on a global project with Murad and nataly osmann. Le Tour de Bochic aimed to take both #FollowMeTo and Bochic to their fans, allowing them to interact with the jewellery and photos in exhibitions across the world. This fusion proved a great success, and in 2016, Joseph and the osmanns will launch an entirely new brand. Follow Your Love will focus on engagement and wedding jewellery, showcasing conflict-free gems, a trend that Joseph believes is just beginning. “it’s new, it’s growing and i think it will be part of the future.” www.bochic.com
