With the 11 November 2017 opening of Louvre Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital will be home to the first museum of its kind in the Arab world. Jean Nouvel’s extraordinary design for the museum city or medina invites you to walk through civilisations and cultures under a 180-metre silver dome, creating a ‘rain of light’ when sunlight filters through its unique geometric construction. The museum will host a range of artefacts and artworks, including some specially commissioned and others on loan from France’s top cultural institutions. Among the masterpieces on display in the ‘Modernity’ section include works by Manet, Mondrian and Gauguin, while the gallery devoted to universal religions features a leaf from the ‘Blue Quran’ and a Gothic bible. louvreabudhabi.ae
