MARIMEKKO: DESIGN ICON 1951–2018
Bendigo Art Gallery, Bendigo. Until 11 June 2018.
Finnish textile and fashion house, Marimekko, achieved global prominence in the 1960s and ‘70s with its bold screen prints. This showcase displays more than 60 outfits alongside examples of its iconic fabrics, homewares, sketches and other miscellanea from the archives. The name Marimekko comes from ‘Mary dress’, the founding design that coincided with women’s liberation and greater freedom in the fashion world.
