PAINTED IN MEXICO, 1700-1790: PINXIT MEXICI
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City 24 April – 22 July 2018
The 18th-century artists of New Spain (Mexico) have long been neglected. In this, their first major exhibition, 112 artworks (many of them paintings) will showcase how these artists were inspired by their home, as well as their European heritage, two centuries after the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. Their work spans frescoes and murals, portraits, screens and devotional images.
