Welcome a newborn to the world with a pair of their very own knitted bootees! Designed for little feet from 0-3 months, this cute trio each follow the same basic pattern. They use easy stitches like moss stitch, stocking stitch and garter stitch – ideal for beginners. Once you’ve knitted one pair, it’ll be hard not to knit the rest!
MOSS STITCH BOOTEES SOLE
** Cast on 43 sts using Yarn A and 3 mm needles. Row 1 *Kfb, K19, kfb; rep from * once more, K1. [47 sts] Rows 2- 4 Knit. Row 5 *Kfb, K21, kfb; rep from * once more, K1. [51 sts] Rows 6- 8 Knit. Row 9 *Kfb, K23, kfb; rep from * once more, K1. [55 sts] Row 10 Knit.
PICOT EDGE
Change to Yarn B. Row 1 Knit. Row 2 Purl. Row 3 K1, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to end. Row 4 Purl. Rows 5 and 6 As Rows 1 and 2. Change to Yarn A. Row 7 Work the tuck as folls: fold work at holes. *Pick up the first st of Row 2 from the back and knit this stitch and the first stitch from your LH needle together; rep from * to end. Row 8 Purl. *** Beg working in moss stitch as folls: Row 1 P1, *K1, P1 rep from * to end. Rep Row 1, 7 more times.
TOP OF FOOT

Work as for Moss Stitch Bootees from ** to ***. Row 9 *K3A, K1C; rep from * to last 3 sts, K3A. Row 10 Using Yarn A, purl. Row 11 Using Yarn A, knit. Row 12 Using Yarn A, purl. Row 13 K5A, *K1C, K3A; rep from * to last 6 sts, K1C, K5A. Row 14 Using Yarn A, purl. Row 15 Using Yarn A, knit. Row 16 Using Yarn A, purl.
TOP OF FOOT

Work 8 rows in K1, P1 rib as for Moss Stitch Bootees. Change to Yarn B. Knit 1 row. Work 4 rows in K1, P1 rib, inc 6 sts evenly across last row. [45 sts]
LEAVES
Change to Yarn B. Row 1 ( WS) K9, turn and work on these sts only. Leave rem sts on a spare needle. Row 2 Purl. Row 3 Ssk, K2, yo, K1, yo, K2, k2tog. Row 4 Purl. Row 5 Ssk, K2, yo, K1, yo, K2, k2tog. Row 6 Purl. Row 7 Ssk, K2, yo, K1, yo, K2, k2tog. Row 8 P2tog, P to last 2 sts, p2togtbl. [7 sts] Row 9 Ssk, K1, yo, K1, yo, K1, k2tog. Row 10 P2tog, P to last 2 sts, p2togtbl. [5 sts] Row 11 Ssk, K1, k2tog. [3 sts] Row 12 Sl1, p2tog, psso. Fasten off. With WS facing, rejoin yarn. Work Rows 1-12 again for the rem sts. You will have 5 leaves in total.
CROCODILE BOOTEES
Work as for Moss Stitch Booties from ** to ***. Change to Yarn C and work 2 rows in garter stitch. Change to Yarn A and work 8 rows in garter stitch.
TOP OF FOOT

CUFF
Work 16 rows in K1, P1 rib as for Moss Stitch Bootees. Cast off.
EYEBALLS (MAKE 2)
Cast on 4 sts using Yarn C. Row 1 Kfb into each st. [8 sts] Row 2 Purl. Row 3 *K1, kfb; rep from * to end. [12 sts] Row 4 Purl. Row 5 *K1, k2tog; rep from * to end. [8 sts] Row 6 Purl. Row 7 (K2tog) to end. [4 sts] Cast off.
EYELIDS (MAKE 2)
Cast on 12 sts using Yarn A. Work 2 rows in st st. Row 3 *K1, k2tog; rep from * to end. [8 sts] Row 4 Purl. Row 5 (K2tog) to end. [4 sts] Row 6 K2tog twice. [2 sts] Row 7 K2tog. Fasten off.
TO MAKE UP
Darn in loose yarn ends and sew rear seam. Fold down Cuffs. Frootee Bootees Fold down the Cuff and using a small firm stitch, secure each of the Leaves to the Top of the Foot. Crocodile Bootees Fold Eyeballs lengthwise and sew rear seam, stuffing as you go. When Eyeball is a nice firm sphere, close all openings and fasten off. Using black yarn, work 2 long stitches across the front of Eyeball to mark pupil. Sew an Eyeball on each side of the bootee below the Cuff. Cover each Eyeball with an eyelid and secure in place with small neat stitches. Work 2 French knots at front of each bootee for nostrils.
