Established The first telethon was broadcast in 1980 and it became a registered charity in 1988. What do you do? We are a charity aimed at making a positive change to the lives of children and young people facing a range of disadvantages such as living in poverty, being disabled or ill, or experiencing distress, neglect or trauma. We are currently providing grants to over 2,700 UK projects, both small and large organisations, which empower children and extend their life choices.
Latest fundraising news What’s brilliant about BBC Children in Need is its ability to unite the UK and encourage people from all walks of life to come together to do their thing to raise money to support children. Ahead of our appeal show on Friday 16 Nov, we’ll be inspiring people across the UK to channel their passions, hobbies or dreams and play their small part in this national moment. People in workplaces, schools and communities get together and do anything from fancy dress to clothes swaps, fun runs to once in a lifetime challenges, bake sales or sponsored silences.
