Heralded by SmartHouse Editor, David Richards, the ‘star' of IFA 2017 was Amazon's Alexa, as “vendor after vendor touted the capabilities of their products using Alexa as their voice activation hero”. Alexa, Amazon's artificial intelligence smart assistant, will shortly launched in Australia and brands such as Harman, LG and several of the big phone brands (e.g. Huawei) are ready with compatible technology. Motorola's newest mid-range, the Moto X4, was also revealed to support Alexa.
Lenovo showed the Leaning Tower of Echo, which is an Alexa-enabled Home Assistant speaker dock which turns a Lenovo TAB 4 into a voice activated device.
Harman revealed the Alexa-powered Allure, a premium-looking and premiumpriced speaker which offers superior audio quality from a 360-degree speaker.
Yamaha have added support for Alexa skills on its MusicCast wireless speaker system - the feature includes commanding a piano to accurately replicate every nuance of a pianist's performance, and have the music play on every MusicCast speaker.
Alexa has quickly spread via partnerships with other device makers, and one of the most surprising partnerships is said to be with LG Electronics.
