Harold’s arms of pancreatic cancer. Old rival-turnedfriend Lou moved in with Harold who encountered the romantic affections of religious reverend Rosie Hoyland (who was also hot for Lou), Lyn Scully’s man-eating mother Valda Sheergold, and conwoman and gambling addict Ruby Dwyer who burgled the Bishop home while Harold was recuperating in hospital after donating a kidney to save Lou’s life.

After coping with his now teenaged and wild granddaughter Sky, the deaths of his son David, daughter-in-law Liljana and granddaughter Serena emotionally decimated Harold, who blamed Paul Robinson for their plane crash deaths and almost strangled him! A brief fling with Janelle Timmins’ mother Loris followed before Harold left town with new love Kate Newton.

On a visit home, Harold was diagnosed with prostate cancer which went into remission. After suffering a heart attack, he and Lou went travelling but mystery surrounded Harold’s next visit until Toadie discovered he was engaged to new love Carolyn Johnstone. After receiving permission from Madge at her gravesite, Harold married Carolyn and they left town to begin a new life.

Harold (Ian Smith) receives treatment for a heart attack, while Madge (below) loses her battle with cancer.
