(1985-90)

Des Clarke’s 1985 wedding day to Lorraine Kingham was ruined by the presence of sexy stripper Daphne Lawrence in Des’ house on the morning of the nuptials.

Also displeased by the development was Julie Robinson, Lorraine’s best friend and Des’ ex-girlfriend who went on to bitterly oppose Des’ subsequent engagements to troubled divorcee Joan Langdon, and worst of all, Daphne!

More women trouble ensued for poor Des in the form of his troublemakingmother Eileen who found that not one woman – especially Daphne – was ever any good for her “Desmond”.

Des and Daphne’s road to love was complicated by Daphne’s brief engagement to Shane Ramsay. Des’ first attempt to marry Daphne fizzled when a bank robber hijacked Daphne’s wedding car. They split and Des fell prey to con artist Andrea Townsend who desperately passed off her son Bradley as Des’ child.

After Eileen exposed Andrea and sent her packing, Des and Daphne reunited and married in a gorgeous church wedding. Their love was completed with the birth of baby Jamie before Daphne left town for six months to care for her ailing father. During this time, Des reunited with Malcolm, the father who’d abandoned him as a child while also discovering that he had a half-sister named Sally Wells.

Daphne was critically

Des (Paul Keane) lost Daphne in a car crash, while Jane (above right) fled to London to care for Mrs Mangel.
