‘YOU KILLED MY MUM'
Stitch AND Abby’s NEWLY WEDDED BLISS IS SHATTERED BY A SHOCKING ACCUSATION
Honeymooning overseas, newlyweds Stitch and Abby are revelling in their bubble of love, finally free from the dramas they left behind in Genoa City. However, reality soon intrudes when they’re advised of Billy’s life-threatening injuries, prompting them to cut their getaway short and rush home. Arriving back in town, the couple has no idea that Billy’s crisis is just the start of some new-found problems that will rock their new marriage.
Assisting with Billy’s (Burgess Jenkins) treatment, Stitch (Sean Carrigan) and Abby (Melissa Ordway) are thunderstruck to be suddenly summoned to the police station where they’re shocked to see Stitch’s young son Max (Jared Breeze), who’s supposed to be in Australia with his mother Jenna.
They’re further stunned when Max screams that Jenna is dead and that Abby killed her! It transpires that Jenna was killed in a car accident while on the phone with Abby arguing over Jenna’s refusal to let Max visit Stitch in the US.
Rattled by the chain of events, Stitch coaxes Max to admit he’s scared of what the future holds for him and suggests that he live with him and Abby in Genoa City. Despite wanting to be close to his father, Max hates the thought of associating with Abby and he mysteriously disappears. He’s finally found at Crimson Lights where he tells Stitch that he doesn’t want to live with him. After gently convincing Max that Abby loves him and isn’t to blame for his mother’s death, Stitch gets his son to reconsider the living arrangement.
Meanwhile, Abby is shaken by Max’s open
hatred for her and, thinking she’s failed as a stepmother, fears the consequences for her marriage. After all, Stitch has told her to step back and let him handle Max on his own. Stitch’s subsequent decision to temporarily move in to the Athletic Club alone with Max cements Abby’s belief that her marriage is already over before it’s even begun. However, the physical separation from Abby doesn’t improve Max’s mood and he remains belligerent and rude to her whenever she reaches out to him. Stitch’s reassurance that Max just needs time to adjust to his new situation is cold comfort for a conflicted Abby. The new Mrs Rayburn clings to the hope that the situation with Max will improve and is heartened when he appears to thaw towards her. But once alone with Max, Abby soon realises he’s only being nice to her for Stitch’s benefit when he angrily makes it clear that he doesn’t need her to be his babysitter.
Desperate to be Max’s friend, Abby introduces him to Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Simon (Michael E. Knight) and Max soon makes friends with Simon, who gets him interested in his scientific research.
But Abby’s efforts to be the best mum she can be soon backfire on her when Stitch verbally attacks her for her actions. He rants that Abby shouldn’t be exposing Max to Simon, who he says is totally untrustworthy and possibly committing a crime with his unorthodox and unproven medical experiments.
Upset by her husband’s tirade, Abby bursts into tears, terribly afraid that unless Max accepts her as part of his life then her marriage to Stitch could suffer irreparable damage.
