Chocolate in its original form, Theobroma cacao, gets its name from a Greek word meaning “food of the gods” and with all the benefits cacao contains it’s easy to see why it got this title. Cacao contains antioxidants that help prevent the signs of ageing as well as promoting blood flow to maintain a healthy glow. It is also a mood booster because it produces the feel-good chemical in the brain and we all know happy smiles make us look more attractive.
Snack attack: Make a healthy hot chocolate by adding two teaspoons of cacao to hot milk and use honey or a little sugar to sweeten as cacao is quite bitter.
top tip: What’s the difference between cacao and cocoa? Cocoa is the roasted, alkalised version of cacao. It still has the same benefits and is cheaper but is less nutrient dense than cacao. SW
