played by Mandy McElhinney Season three was a roller-coaster ride for Matron Frances Bolton who started out on a mission to get Stanton House reopened. With the doors shut it meant unmarried pregnant women had nowhere to turn. After forming an unlikely alliance with Joan, Stanton House was back in business. But the main struggle for Matron was repairing the strained relationship she had with her son Chris (Lincoln Younes).
He’d not long come back into her life when he started up a romance with single mother and club singer Annie (Gracie Gilbert). Chris was in love and desperate to marry Annie when she found out she was pregnant. Matron tried to instil in Chris the value of a good, honest job and despite her reservations ended up realising Annie was just what Chris needed to get his life on the straight and narrow.
With Chris, Annie and their kids heading off into the sunset to elope, Matron will be searching for a new purpose this season. She is continuing to rule Stanton House with an iron fist as challenges threaten to come her way.
