THE BLAME GAME
SHOT IN THE BACK AND LEFT FOR DEAD, Bill IS QUICK TO NAME HIS LONGTIME ENEMY Ridge AS THE GUNMAN WHEN HE FINALLY WAKES… BUT IS HE JUST OUT FOR REVENGE AGAINST THE MAN HE HATES?
Ominous winds howl through the Spencer estate, quite literally and figuratively. Bill’s treasured golden gun lies on a desk nearby as a raging Ridge brutally confronts Bill in his living room, demanding he stay away from Steffy as he won’t let him hurt his daughter anymore! After smugly taunting Ridge that he had sex with Steffy because she wanted it, Bill punches him and threatens to have Ridge arrested when he threatens to kill him!
Soon after Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) leaves the estate, Bill (Don Diamont) is totally lost in thought, recalling all of the heinous things he’s done to the many people around him and the retaliatory threats of revenge they’ve made against him. Then, the house’s security cameras flicker out and the estate’s front gate opens as a shadowy figure creeps up the driveway and into the house. Unaware someone’s stalking him, Bill has no time to react when the house is suddenly plunged into darkness and a gunshot echoes through the living room, the bullet hitting him in the back and sending him crashing to the floor in a pool of blood!
Within moments, Katie (Heather Tom) discovers her unconscious ex-husband and summons the police and paramedics, who rush Bill to
“You tried to kill Bill! It was you, wasn’t it?”
hospital for emergency surgery. Once police inquiries into the shooting begins in earnest, the various suspects are on eggshells, scrambling to get their alibis together as a rattled Ridge encounters a nervous Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) at Il Giardino. She wants to talk about Ridge’s earlier request for her to kill Bill – but he’s in no mood for a chat and goes home for a sleepless night.
The next morning, Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) sees the news bulletin that Bill’s been shot and asks her hubby if he tried to kill him. Denying it, Ridge worries Brooke when he wants to thank the person who did pull the trigger. Later that morning, Ridge comes under closer scrutiny when Detective Sanchez (Jeremy Ray Valdez) arrives at Forrester Creations to interview him about his whereabouts the night before and becomes suspicious of Ridge’s black eye. Careful not to incriminate himself, Ridge dismisses Det. Sanchez and replies that he knows the shooter’s identity. Visiting Sheila, Ridge says, “You tried to kill Bill. It was you, wasn’t it?” Heartily laughing off the accusation, Sheila reminds Ridge that he asked her to kill Bill and, remembering that Ridge was wearing gloves on the night Bill was shot, suspects he’s accusing her to cover his own guilt. Meanwhile, Ridge’s fortunes darken again when Justin (Aaron D. Spears) suggests to Det. Sanchez that Ridge is the likely culprit, while Ridge does nothing to support his own protests of innocence as he terrifies Brooke by saying he doesn’t care what happens to Bill; he deserves to die after what he did to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood).
Unfortunately, Ridge’s situation only worsens when Bill finally regains unconsciousness and tells Det. Sanchez that “Forrester” shot him. Aware that Ridge has motive and opportunity for the shooting, the cops head to Forrester Creations and place Ridge under arrest for attempted murder, much to Brooke’s horror! Protesting his innocence, Ridge rants that while he hates Bill, there are others out there who hate him enough to shoot him. Terrified of the consequences for her husband, Brooke visits Bill, accuses him of lying about Ridge and demands that he admit to framing him. With Bill insistent that Ridge shot him, Brooke’s left to fight her husband’s corner, summoning Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) to legally represent him. Once Carter pleads Ridge’s case, Det. Sanchez begins to suspect Bill is setting up Ridge and concludes that Quinn (Rena Sofer) may be the real assailant after all.
Nevertheless, Ridge remains in jail, pending a bail hearing, as Det. Sanchez interrogates Quinn about her movements when Bill was shot. She’s mortified to be considered a suspect and Eric (John McCook) defends her honour, saying she’s innocent. Ridge agrees Quinn is innocent.
Meanwhile, Brooke pleads with Bill to tell the truth and admit that he never saw Ridge shoot him but, when Bill remains defiant, Brooke argues with Det. Sanchez, demanding he set Ridge free as Bill’s eyewitness account isn’t reliable.
Getting angrier, Brooke yells at him that she’ll do whatever it takes to set Ridge free.
DOLLAR BILL An indignant Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) is led to the cells on a murder charge.
