Health and sporting hub in high demand

Sold On Sunshine Coast - - Suburb Profile | Birtinya -

THE name Birtinya is an aboriginal word meaning neighbouring.

Built around Lake Kawana, this suburb is in high demand.

With the development of commercial and residential, and also the new hospital taking place, this area is quickly becoming a world class destination for the region of the Sunshine Coast.

Surrounded by waterways and with kilometres of waterfront cycling and walking paths, the community has a wide range of quality home sites which border natural parklands as well as waterfront addresses.

With a wide variety of home sites for buyers to choose from, Birtinya is highly sought after.

Housing styles vary from waterfront homes, terrace housing, apartment blocks through to house and land packages.

Who would have thought in 1967 when house and land packages were selling for $9700, that we would be where we are today?

In addition to newly released waterfront and neighbourhood residential blocks, there is a range of parks, pedestrian and cycle paths including the continuation of the walkable waterfront track around Lake Kawana.

Development of the Kawana precinct dates back to the 1970s, yet it really began to take hold in the late 1990s. When Lensworth were involved in the master planned development, new residential estates opened up. People wanted to live near the water which greatly increased expectations for housing.

The 17ha, Oceanside Health Hub is envisaged to offer a range of health services, commercial space, aged care facilities, shops, and cafes as well as hotel-style accommodation.

Birtinya is home to the recently occupied $1.8 billion Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital that forms the heart of the health hub.

Opening in April 2017, the hospital will revolutionise healthcare on the Coast with a range of free public hospital services.

Supported by highly trained and specialised staff, it is estimated that over 10,000 patients will no longer need to travel for treatment.

With the ability to expand to 900 beds if needed, this development gives the Sunshine Coast a confidence boast, especially in terms of underpinning real estate values.

Along with the Public Hospital, Kawana Private Hospital also includes the make-up of the Kawana Health Hub.

Sporting options are popular in this area. Home to Sunshine Coast Stadium, the venue is host to many sporting events with the main player being NRL.

With the feeder team for the Storm Football Club using this facility, it attracts many visitors and locals to the grounds to cheer the teams on.

Lake Kawana is yet another asset that has improved local sporting participation. The development of facilities and well-kept grounds, assists in retaining local athletes and attracting individuals, teams and more events.

Along with the commercial and health developments, we are blessed with the rise of great cafes, restaurants and fast food chains that have popped up in the area.

With booming residential and commercial estates, and home to the new hospital, Birtinya has emerged over the years and is fast becoming to a well regarded suburb, for all the right reasons.
