Richter Acoustics Wizard

Richter Acoustics itself launched just before the first issue of Sound+Image hit newsstands, so we’ve given it pole position in our time-ordered Ultimate 30, even though the Wizard itself is on the books as launching in 1991. It went on to become possibly Australia’s best-selling speaker ever, and a top value top performer through five series of Legend loudspeakers — the Mk2 arrived in 1999, the Mk3 in 2005, and just to confuse us, a Mk3.5 version in 2009, followed by the Mk4 in 2011 and the current pictured Legend Series V Wizard going on sale in 2016. “Richter would no doubt invoke the Wizard’s incantation and say it’s ‘magic’,” wrote Greg Borrowman of the latest version, “but I tend to think that it’s the new ‘dream team’ of designers that should be congratulated on a job very well done.” It’s the first of our Sound+Image Ultimate 30.
