B&W’s famous diamond tweeters make use of diamond’s unique stiffness-to-lightness ratio — and diamond tweeter domes push the break-up frequency to a remarkable 70kHz, away from the operating range of the dome so that clarity and detail be achieved without resonances and distortion. The enabling technology is Chemical Vapour Deposition, ‘growing’ diamond like ice crystals on a window — but requiring temperatures equivalent to those on the surface of the Sun! B&W worked with the world’s foremost industrial diamond producer to create the diamond domes used on the 800 Series D3.
