NAD’s ‘Hybrid Digital’ amplification, harnesses Hypex’s UcD (Universal Class-D) technology. Unlike the active digital processing used for error correction in Direct Digital, UcD uses a switching analogue amplifier where each driver and output stage has such low open-loop distortion that the whole circuit is able to achieve self-regulation. In higher level products, carefully managed clipping is added to allow high levels of control feedback, bringing a dramatic reduction in distortion across the audio band, in addition to useful load invariance and high current capability when backed by a well regulated (but not too tight) custom switch-mode power supply. This final control loop is the difference between UcD and the highly-regarded ‘Ncore’ amplifiers.
