The decision for Sennheiser to remain a ‘family’ business was cemented in 1973 when Fritz Sennheiser transformed the company into a limited partnership with his son Jörg Sennheiser becoming a limited partner. Already an acoustic engineer with the company, Jörg Sennheiser became Technical Director in 1976, and CEO on Fritz’s retirement in 1982 at the age of 70.

“I had prepared myself for retirement,” Fritz said later, “although I must admit that I would have been happy to have carried on even longer, simply because I enjoyed it... it took me two and a half years to get used to not being able to make the decisions any longer…”

The family’s third generation joined the company after Fritz Sennheiser’s death in 1990, with Dr Andreas (left below) and Daniel Sennheiser now the company’s joint CEOs.
