Business centres receive makeovers
BUSINESS centres across the South Burnett are looking a bit “tired”.
It has pushed South Burnett Regional Council to allocate money for beautification projects in this year’s budget.
Blackbutt has received $3 million for kerb and channelling works, $900,000 is heading to Nanango to complete the upgrades of that town’s business centre and Kingaroy’s Glendon St car park will receive a $300,000 facelift.
Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said it needed to be done.
“You go back historically we boomed in the ’50s and ’60s and most of the infrastructure was from the ’60s at least,” Cr Kratzmann said.
He said Blackbutt was the big winner with $3 million to improve drainage and kerbs.
The main street was the first priority.
“It will start at the top hill. That’s actually the start of the business centre,” he said.
“As people come down into Blackbutt and see a nice town then they are more likely to stop.”
Cr Kratzmann is not wasting any time getting started on Blackbutt.
“I am meeting with engineers, Deb Palmer and Damian Tessmann this week to prioritise the work.”
FUNDED: Storm Dowsett says the carpark upgrade will be welcome.
