Final cook-off turns up heat
MasterChef field finale down to last two young guns
UNI student Laura Cassai and skid steer operator Brent Owens battled it out in the MasterChef finals last night.
The young guns were the final two amateur cooks standing in the sixth season of the reality cooking show.
Health science student Cassai is just 19, making her the youngest ever grand finalist, while Owens is 24.
“It’s amazing to be 19 and cooking at the level she cooks; it’s incredible,” said Emelia Jackson, who was eliminated from the show on Sunday night.
Jackson said both finalists deserved the crown.
“I would love for Brent to win. He’s got a really wide skill set,” she said on the weekend.
“He’s very talented but so is Laura. I’d love both of them to win really.”
Owens, who works for his father’s excavation business, hopes to star in a food travel show, and Cassai wants to open an Italian cafe in McLaren Vale, South Australia.
Last night was the last time the two finalists donned their white MasterChef aprons.
Jackson said she still felt like a winner despite missing out on the grand final.

“It was a complete surprise,” Jackson told APN.
“I sort of stood there in shock. I didn’t know what to say. I probably look stunned at the time. I wasn’t expecting it.
“It’s a really beautiful kitchen and the staff is incredible.
“It was a great experience.”
